Hi Cheryl, We are set to meet the first friday in May from 12-3pm. But it changes a lot everytime we meet. If you want you can come over to my house sometime and I can show you what I've done. We all have a lot of left over class gourds we are working on. Sometimes we start a new project we have agreed on. Do you like to gourd with other people? Mostly we gourd in Judy's studio and if the weather is good we'll sometime gourd on my deck. It's mainly if any of us has messy projects.

My phone number is 538-8748, if you want to chat on the phone. Take care, Rhonda

Hi Cheryl, Send me your email address and I'll let you know the next time Georgette and Judy and I get together for gourding. We usually meet at one of our houses in Santa Rosa. Next week we'll probably meet. I'll let you know when. Are you available during the day? It's nice hearing from you. Take care, Rhonda

Hi Cheryl.  Yes I have a shop on Etsy called Gourds In Costume.  I don't have a lot of inventory on it right now since I did so well at Christmas and just haven't buckled down since.  I will check your pieces out.  Nice to hear from you.

Mahalo for all the positive feedback.  I use a Dremel for all the carving - that's hard enough on my hand muscles - I can't imagine carving by hand!  I made "Road to Keanae" for a specific art show, featuring only native Hawaiian plants as the subjects, and was turned down (!).  I ended up selling it to a gallery for very little, and have been kicking myself ever since, as it took more time planning and working on than anything else I've done.  Actually, we don't have any beaches here on this side of Maui - just 200-300-foot cliffs over the ocean.  We're more into freshwater pools and waterfalls over here.

I got the chopsticks stand idea from Bonnie Gibson (it's not original), then started using bamboo, which grows wild here.

Hi Cheryl, I just got back from the Wuertz Festival at Casa Grande Arizona. It was so nice.  I took 4 classes and came home with some nice looking gourds. Take a look at the Wellburn Gourd Farm festival the end of June.  A bunch of us are going and they just posted the classes which fill up fast. Also the Leisure farm festival is coming up May 13 and 14 with classes on the 11th,12th and 13th. It should be fun. I love your gourds.  That gorgeous green with glass beads is great. Was that metallic paint? Take care, Rhonda

I know what you mean...our son is like your husband, hecan draw anything. its good to have an artist in the family.

And WE are artists in our own way!  but your bunny and penguin look just like they should!!  I could never do that!

I guess what i mean is...I cant look at a horse and transfer that from my eye to my hand, and i don't have a clue about shading and light perspective.  So many of the people on here have that talent.  But some people just love to work on gourds, like me.  :-)

I see you put some of your gourds on here!!  Yay!!

PS  I loved fossils before i started gourding...my house is decorated with rocks and fossils...but they are relatively easy to burn, because they are not perfect!!  it looks like it came from the earth like that.  :-)

Hi Cheryl!  Thank you for the compliments.  I was afraid to put my pics up, because i dont have any artistic ability and there are so many talented artists here.  But i guess we can all inspire someone else to try something a little different.

I can't wait to see what you do!!!  -debbie

Mahalo, Cheryl-

I'm pretty sure I'll never do this much carving again!  (It's not nearly as blindingly blue as in the photo).
