Hello
I am one of the site administrators for the Gourd Art Enthusiasts website. I am also the webmaster & newsletter editor for the Washington State Gourd Society http://www.wagourdsociety.org/ I am sending you this invitation to see if you are interested in becoming a part of our state gourd society. Our membership includes 4 issues of our Mu’s Newsletter and a way to connect with other gourd heads in the state of Washington. Some of our members have also started small groups or (Gourd Patches) where they get together once a month to learn or teach new skills to each other, if this is something you are interested in. Or if we get enough people interested in another area a new gourd patch can be created.
We are also gearing up for our second gourd festival which will be held in Moses Lake, WA at the Grant County Fairgrounds, July 16th & 17th. We will also have four days of gourd classes from the 14th to 17th. There will also be gourd vendors selling tools and embellishments. We also will have a gourd competition, last year we had 145 entries. Here is our festival website http://www.wagourdsociety.org/NorthwestGourdFestival.htm Classes will be posted toward the beginning of next year.

If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Washington State Gourd Society please visit our website and click on the Membership page at the top. You can also see how many members there are from our state on the same page. You might even see some other people that live in or near your home town.

Judy,
I'm replying to your question about wax resist on gourds. I've done much work with Czech egg decorating, called Kraslice, and did try the same procedures on gourds with good success. As far as materials, I used the same Kraslice tools and materials (basically nails on dowels), beeswax and dyes. I'd be glad to share sources if you're interested.

Hi Judy...
Classes at the gourd festival should be announced on WSGS website soon. I haven't done a lot with gourds either, and this will be the first festival I've attended. I can hardly wait! I'm sure some have used wax resist on gourds; however I think there are other resists that may be easier to work with - like the ones that watercolor artists use. (This is just my guess - I'm not certain if I'm correct). Let me get back to you later about lunch at KFC...right now I have a lot of things going on that have chopped up my spare time! I LOVE KFC!!! Judy J
