New tool for cleaning carving burrs, files and sanding drums.

I found a nifty little tool for removing gunk from carving burrs, sanding drums and files when they get a buildup on them from various materials you are working with. All you do is run your burrs or…Continue

Does your Sharpie Marker Bleed when finishes are applied?

OK, I've been testing some different lacquers on Sharpies on gourds. What seems to work without bleeding the markers are Satin Finish Lacquers. Gloss and Semi-Gloss will bleed the markers badly even…Continue

Drill Presses. What to look for when considering a drill press for working with your gourds.

This is a tutorial I made up for a group of 4-Hers recently. It's suitable for groups of kids with no real gourding equipment, just tools that can be found around a normal garage. You could also try…Continue

Supplier News - Hobby Lobby

Starting Monday(?) Hobby Lobby is opening their on-line store for those of you without one in your area. They used to sell some items thru a second party on-line store but have launched their own now. I have a Hobby Lobby (and a Michaels) right across the river but can use their on-line store for reference. Can't wait to check it out, but I can see this costing me a lot of money....

Well, I just took a class from Arturo (luckily) and one from Vickie (at a hotel in Casa Grande). Yes, I love gourds, know them since was a kid back in my country, Brazil, but just started working with them about 3 1/2 years, but haven't' done almost any for a whole year after my house caught in fire. I'm slowly getting back to it and with gourds friends and festivals like Wuertz are really a big help to bring back my enthusiasm !

Are you planning on teaching any classes again...? We're having 5 days festival this year in Texas, maybe you could give a thought...?!...

By the way, your work at Wuertz was very impressive !!

Hi Bonnie, it was very nice to meet you personally at Wuertz. I did enjoy our night meetings around Vickie's trailer with friends talking and grilled chicken and steaks.
Hope to be back next year!

Thanks, Bonnie.  Great to see you too.  Sue sent me my business  card holder a few days ago so that one must belong to one of the others.  I am curious to see what happens in the world of puppets for next year.  Heather

I was a wood worker until my back gave out. I had a lot of wood left over that I'm using

for my gourds. I did rustic, log cabin woodwork, tables, quilt racks, clocks and anything

you can think of that fit the rustic look.

Bonnie, I'm using the sanding balls to clean the inside of my gourds but I find that some of the ladies talk about your "sanding mop" to finish the inside.  Can you tell me more about this sanding mop?  Do you still sell it, cost, etc.

Hi Bonnie. Thanks for the information about the tacky wax recipe. Haven't been on GAE lately, just now saw your comment, will give a try and let you know how it went this time.

Bonnie, I spread a lot of the tacky wax I got at Hobby Lobby, not sure how thick it was, but after all these days it's still tacky in the areas where the beads came out. I've never worked with it, but if it's tacky, I'd imagine the beads would be still attached...well, most of them are...?!... I don't rmember seeing the tacky wax recipe in this website, will have to look for it. Thanks.
