"Suzi, I would like to donate one of Jerry's first gourd pieces for auction this year. It is a small dove holding an olive branch he did in 2002. You may have seen it in his postage stamp picture . Jim"

I was wondering when u said, using the water method to clean the insides of the Mr. Jack gourds, thay u used the flat canning lid to scrape the insides how u did it? I can't see where a lid or hole has been cut large enough for scraping. I'm a visual person and I just can't figure out how u scrape them or get the pulp, etc., out?? I'm slow, sorry...lol!'

Thanks Suzi, that's actually what I assumed but I wanted to make sure before I arrived at class.  I mentioned the filigree burs before but I was thinking drill bits.  Senior moment, I guess.

Suzi, I will be in your "A Thousand Holes" class at Wuertz Gourd Festival next weekend and I want to make sure I have the correct bits with me.  I have done quite a bit of filigree so have those bits.  Otherwise, can you be more specific about what type of bits we'll need.  Or, will you have bits there for us to buy?

Aloha Suzi-

I make the initial holes with a drill, then use a "Gourd Saw" to cut out the openings and shape the top,  Then sanding and filing to smooth the edges.  That one sold so quickly that I did a similar one, but with carved areas, which I'll post today - hopefully the same result!  Your photos are incredible - do you have a professional so them in a studio, or is that one of your talents?

Mahalo,

Neola

Suzi, I've made some feeble attempts. I have all my materials and some great books now so plan to spend some time on it again. Having trouble doing the rim, so need to get that figured out for sure. Thanks!

Hi Suzi, I'd be happy to send a photo or two of Jerry. You'll have to update me, because I've not heard anything about him for a number of years, aside from him moving back east some time ago. Send me an email to ... vinsgraphics [at] gmail [dot] com, and I'll reply with images. Thanks!  — Vince

It sounds great to me.  I used to use my Grandpa's pocket  knife for cutting gourds but that got to be too time consuming.  The blade for a woodburner sounds interesting also.  Always something new to learn.  Send instructions and I will  do my best.  Thanks again.
