Oil Pencil over acrylics

I'm new to oil pencils and am wondering if I can use oil pencils to shade over acrylic paints.  Even though I used fixatif over the acrylic, the pencil worked on one color but not on two others.  I…Continue

"Oh, one more thing I just remembered.  When coiling your base, keep checking to make sure you'll be getting a level base so the gourd will not still be wobbly.  If I remember correctly (it's been a long time since her class on…"

"Look at Vickie Echols page and she has photos of a couple of gourd baskets that have pine needle coiling for a base.  I've taken classes from her and she drills holes (like you would at the top) in the form she wants.  She uses two…"

Marty Amaya replied to June Johnson's discussion palm weaving
"Hi June, The Caning Shop sells some online. The ones I bought from them a long time ago were on the stiff side, even when soaked. Hard, but not impossible to work with but would not have been good for a small, tightly woven project. I see that you…"

"Yes, June, you soak them.  Warm water for about a half hour or so.  Take a few out at a time and keep them in a towel as you use them and leave the rest until you need them.  Some types of palm inflorescence are so stiff…"

"Angie, this is really nice.  I like the 'dropped' treatment of the beading.  Are they sewed on one at a time or are they strung?  Either way, this is awesome."

Thanks for the great suggestions, Marty, on spraying the inside of a gourd. Very helpful, and I will give that a try! (We do not have a JoAnns anywhere near where I live, so the Mess Master is pretty much impossible for now anyway. Living in the middle of nowhere has its downside!)

Here's a pic of the inside of my frog gourd. It's a very small gourd.

Hi Marty!

This is a little tricky but you'll get the hang of it. You never get a 100 percent smooth finish but you can get it pretty close.

Three of the most important tricks:
1. Cut your nails so that you can use the pads of your fingertips to smooth the apoxie
2. Use plenty of water on your fingers to smooth
3. Rub with a few fingers back and forth over lumpy areas to smooth (using water!)

I sent you a message with my friend request: If you email me, I can send you a short instruction file on lining the gourd.

Hey Marty thanks for the birthday wishes. The girls have pretty much convinced me to go to Weurtz. Because of budget I wasn't planning on going but sharing gas and room I've decided to go for it. We are going to leave fri am and stay fri and sat night. So likely will see you after all it's not that big.
