Cliff Dweller

Great piece of driftwood made the perfect base for this maiden done with faux painted acrylics, dimensional paints for the beading and a combination of acrylics and gourd dyes for the headdress and small pot.

It all began with a problem wall in my new house in New Mexico and seeing my first gourd mask. The wall is now covered with gourd masks and my interest in working with gourds expanded and continues to grow.

Thank you for the comment on my gourd & vine.  I wish I had your skill in painting.

Thanks, Kathe.  I'm attempting to do faux beading with your instructions.  I did two moccasins with a belt like strip of cloth draped over and in the shoe.  I told Karen Phillips I was anxious to see if I can make the curving/drooping parts of the belt look right with beading.  I shall see.  I know it won't look as good as any that you do, but I will definitely give it a try.  Thanks for sharing your instruction information.  Phyllis

I did shack it but guess I didn't do it enough.  Honestly, I didn't overdo it.  ;o)  Oh, I can imagine what those dots looked liked in the AZ heat.

Here is a story about shacking!  My grandson was using the bathroom.  When he finished, he wiggled us bottom half and said, "Shaky, Shaky, Shaky."  I asked him where he got that figuring he would say from his dad.  He said, "I learned that on the hunting lease watching the g big guys."  ;o)  Grown men acting like little boys.  ;o)

Well, now I know I will not have to give my Tulips to my grandson to play with.  ;o)  I did notice they kind of bleed out of the circle shape some.  I think I will try drilling that little hole and see if that keeps their shape.  Will let you know my findings.  ;o)  I use Americana's Matte spray.  I'm not big on using lacquer.

Hi Kate.  Question?  What brand of dimensional fabric paint do you use?  I bought Tulip.  It was easy to use, but silly me bought 'slick.'   I goggled and found out that there were a lot of brands making it.  Really wanted a matte finish which Tulip has.  Okay, please tell me!!!!  ;o)

Hi Lady.  Just thought I would make some suggestions about your coiling that I hope will help you.  Wish I could be there with you!!!!

Your needles cannot be dry to do the technique you are trying.  They have to wet/damp.  Keep them covered with you are coiling.  I turn up my bath towel up just over a few so I can pull them out.  This will keep the remainder damp.  Also, make sure you have that Glycerin in your water along with the Murphy Soap.  They keep the needles pliable.

Yep, I noticed that your inside stitches weren't straight.  ;o)  Just pay attention where you are inserting that needle.  While you are learning, check each stitch to make sure it's correct.  If it's wrong, take that stitch out and try again.  Yes, that's a pain but it will correct yourself.  It will come in time.

Overall, I think that piece is very nice!!!  PROUD OF YOU LADY!!!!
