The roundness of a gourds creates a challenge. Also, being able to carve, woodburn, paint, stain, coil, etc. gives me limitless options to express my art. I LOVE GOURDS!
I picked up my first gourd in1997, burned it and I mean literally.I told myself that this was not for me and never looked back until I inherited some gourds from my sister 2012 and haven't stopped since! There is so much more to learn. So many more techniques for me to try.
Helen, u r right! I do text a lot. I only have Internet on my phone, not my pc. Guess I'm lazy and like the convenience of my phone. I'm not a two thumber though, I just one finger it. U will definitely hear from me! I would love to come to ur house and learn one-on-one. Nothing better. I love to have fun and laugh, so u will have ur hands full. Thank u again for the offer. Look forward to our meeting. My best, Judy
Helen, you r so generous to offer me a private lesson and if I don't make it to Fredrricksbug, I "will" take u up on ur offer. I lived in Palestine for 14 years until my husband died and I moved back to Comanche. It's a six hour drive but my son lives in Dallas and I could spend the night with him and get an early start to ur house. I'm do darned excited I can hardly stand it. Ur work is the best and I look forward to getting together with u. My best!!! Judy
Helen, I got ur message about the Texas Gourd Festival. I had planned to attend just to take ur course and one of Judy Richies but my little dog almost died during the summer and it was costly to keep her alive but I did. It took all my money saved for the festival plus hundreds more. She's doing good and I'm happy. I'm still trying to figure out a way to attend. If I can manage it, I will take ur class if there is a space available. I really want to learn the feaux leather technique. Thnx. Judy
Hi Hellen, I'm really excited about Jordans class too. He's such a character and I know I'm going to learn so much from him. Yes, my husband and I are going to make a road trip out of it. Not sure what he'll do while we're carving our fingers to the bone but I'm sure he'll be able to entertain himself in one way or another.
Will you be at Wuertz again next year? I've been going there for about eigh years and have never had the opportunity to meet you. My friends and I rent a house every year and always have a dinner on Wednesday night. Bonnie and Everett Gibson, Judy & Bob Richie and a number of other friends come. We try and keep it small and intimate so we have an opportunity to visit and catch up. Maybe you can make it this time if you're in town by then. We arrive in Casa Grande on Monday, go to Tucson to shop on Tuesday, have our dinner on Wednesday and then the whirl wind of teaching and exhibiting starts on Thursday.
If they are bleeding out you need to shake the bottle more to mix the oils. I learned the hard way not to try and work on the dots in the garage when it's super hot because it doesn't matter how much I shake the bottle they just kind of melt. :>)
I buy Tulip or Scribbles. Not to worry if you bought slick - I do sometimes if that's the color I need. When you finish spray it with a matte lacquer it won't be shiny any more. :>) Anxious to see your creation.
