Soaking gourds in copper sulphate

At a recent festival there was a discussion on gourds.  The speaker stated to make gourds stronger or harder to soak them in a copper sulphate solution.  There was  no mention of strength of solution or any other instructions. Thank you for the good words.  I do teach but so far have only taught here in Wisconsin.  I will be teaching a carving, level 1 class at the WGS spring show in Madison, WI.  I do not use any other material, such as clay, on my gourds.  I obtain the depth by carving and I use a dremel tool to do this.
