I’m personally inviting you to the Louisiana Gourd Society’s 1st Annual Show that will be held April 19-20, 2013 at the Claiborne Parish Fairgrounds located at 1563 Fairgrounds Drive in Haynesville, LA.   

They will have classes both days, gourd art, competition, and kids korner.  Visit their web site ….. www.louisianagourdsociety.org ….. for the class schedule and more information.

Tom and Zelda Hornsby, Bayou Gourds, will have gourds for you to purchase ….. www.bayougourds.com.    Nedra Dennison, Sawdust Connection, will have a wide variety of her many supplies you can purchase ….. www.sawdustconnection.com.   I will be teaching two classes and have a booth with my art and gourd books … www.paintingsbyhellen.com .   There will also be other artists with their gourd art and supplies!!!

Hi Glenda,

No, I carve with a Foredom.  A Dremel would wear out quickly with heavy duty carving.  I also use a Shofu which is a air compressed tool that uses the small dental burs.  Thanks for the compliments. Phyllis

Thank you for the good words.  I do teach but so far have only taught here in Wisconsin.  I will be teaching a carving, level 1 class at the WGS spring show in Madison, WI.  I do not use any other material, such as clay, on my gourds.  I obtain the depth by carving and I use a dremel tool to do this.
