Indianweave Closed Coiling

"Go to YouTube. Type in Grunge Spray and it is the 6th video down. They use an airbrush but a fine mist of spray paint works well. Just be sure to spray paint the gourd a solid darker color first and use lighter colors on top."

"Carpet foam cleaner is about $10-16 a can depending on the brand. If you want the Grunge FX Spray you get it online at Chicago Airbrush Supply. It is $16.88 + shipping. One can goes a long way though. If you are not going to use it but once, I would…"

What is your interest in gourds? Please be specific - one word answers will not be accepted. We block all potential spammers. YOU MUST use both your first and last name on your profile or we will not approve your membership.
I am an amateur to gourds (2 months and only have 7 gourds under my belt). I enjoy woodburning, staining, painting, embellishing and light carving. I would like to learn more techniques with these and learn proper weaving and coiling methods. I hope to be inspired by the artwork displayed here, find my own unique style, and help others who join after me.

Diane, the butterfly gourd is 14 inches high.  Fortunately the lady that commissioned it is very pleased.   Thanks for your kind words.

I believe the directions are on the container.  I think it was 50/50 with water.  You have to use the pastel ground gesso for regular gesso I don't think would work.  I use wood burning for the shading but that's just me.  Shading with the colored pencils would also work.

HI Diane,

Bonnie is correct when she says that an exacto blade.  That would be extremely hard to do.  In the case of this gourd, I actually used a regular jig saw because the gourd was so thick.  Most of the time I use one of these small jig saws like those sold at Micromark or the Caning Shop.

Getting ready for Art Festival this Friday.

I am PUMPED! Finishing gourds I started, finishing bottles, repairing tent, and getting ready to decide what to pack and what not to pack. Couldn't do it without my darling husband, Jim. He is a great help and support.

My high school students interviewed me and made a gourd video

On Saturday, December 15, 2012, two high school students in a video editing class came to my house. Sam Jackson and Elyssa Gauthier made a video for Mr. Bishop's video editing class in which they interviewed me about my fascination with gourd art. Sam had me in a class and made a gourd. He thought it was cool and so wanted to visit my workshop. You can view the video on my website: …
