"You did such a wonderful job of sanding. Glad you had it in your house when the tree fell. Would have been a shame to lose it. It is a great gourd. I know what you mean about keeping it for months waiting for an idea to pop in your mind. I,m…"

Debby Rising replied to Nancy Ratliff's discussion Thunder drum gourd
"Thank you Bonnie and Jodi for sharing your information and experience about the gourds. The gourds in question have been clean inside and free of that styrofoam stuff (I suspected that could be the cause but didn’t see any once I tore the skin…"

Debby Rising replied to Nancy Ratliff's discussion Thunder drum gourd
"I've found that keeping the heat gun in a constant flow of motion helps to avoid the crinkling of the drum head. If I hold the gun too close or too long in an area it causes the drum head to crinkle. Ron strongly suggested that when I took his…"

" Your mask is very unique to the Pacific Northwest. The chip carving creates a fluidity that draws you in. I love the orcas. This is beautiful."

What is your interest in gourds? Please be specific - one word answers will not be accepted. We block all potential spammers. YOU MUST use both your first and last name on your profile or we will not approve your membership.
Carving, woodburning, inlay and beading are common methods of expression with gourds along with using natural (often found) elements. Working with gourds has allowed me to keep family traditions going as my adult children have developed their own interests and styles as well. I teach children's Rattle classes with some central California tribes. Classes are now available to urban youth and adults in the Sacramento area. 2013 has been a busy year starting with being invited to the Crocker Art Museum in February, moving into studio space and participating in events throughout the area. I've learned a lot, made some mistakes, bitten off more than I could chew (and survived). but best of all, I've had the good fortune to meet a whole lot of supportive, helpful, and fun gourders. I'm looking forward to another year in 2014!

Hi, Debby, If you'll send me an email at cabinmade17@frontiernet.net I'll send you an info sheet on the sanding mops with purchase information. We can't sell anything thru GAE, so need to talk in private email. Thanks for your interest.
