Hi, Clarissa, Found the recipe for Tacky Wax in a past AZ Gourds Newsletter. http://www.arizonagourds.com/August09.html  I'm not positive, but I believe it needs to be spread at least 1/16" or 3/32" thick. It will dry out a bit but never truly sets up. That's the reason to keep it out of hot weather or direct sunlight.

Hi, Clarissa, There is a homemade recipe for tacky wax in the forum, tutorials on this website. It's easy to make fresh at home. I've never used the store-bought so not sure what's going on there. How thick did you spread it on? The bead gets pressed in with the hole outward. The wax gets into the hole  and aids in holding the bead in place. The work should never be exposed to the heat of the sun either as tacky wax melts faster than beeswax in it's pure state. Otherwise not sure what could be going on. My best guess is that the wax may not have been spread thick enough.

Clarissa, There is also a back issue of The Gourd Magazine with a monthly contest on beaded gourds. Those gourds had as many as 90,000 beads used on them!

Hi, Clarissa, I don't sell any Huichol products, but you only need two things for that technique. Beads and tacky wax. One of Bonnie Gibson's Arizona Gourds Newsletters, past issues can be seen on her website, has Dottie Cooper's recipe, submitted by me, for Tacky Wax. The beads are just the small glass beads available in countless colors at any Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc, craft stores. There may even be a tutorial for the Huichol Method on this site under Tutorials or online. I believe Dusti Lockey has a tutorial on the technique as well.

I did one beaded gourd in a method similar to Huichol and decided that I didn't have the patience for that much beading. I really admire those who do. It's an amazing technique.
