"I actually used Aqua (purchased from Sawdust Collections - their brand of ink dye) expecting it to be bluer. The underlying gourd color gave it the greener tone which at first I wasn't happy with (wanted blue), but the more I looked at it, I…"

"I do not get a rich green color from memory ink.  What color did you use and did you do anything special when applying the dye?"

The turtle is wood burned. Inner circle is crushed egg shells, outer circle and rim are sand. Memories Inks were used. I love sea turtles - this gourd represents the struggle the baby turtle has to make just to get to the water. First, it has to…

Small Cannon Ball Dyed Pysanky style.

"Thanks! I'll keep that in mind! I do want to try it! I really enjoyed making my egg and was really pleased with the way it turned out. A friend was teaching a group of us so all the supplies were hers."

I am new to working with gourds. I like to make bowls for decoration and want to make some birdhouses. I will be planting some seeds this spring to try growing my own gourds.

Barbara, Welcome! I have been a member for a few months and find it an excellent site.  Great ideas and inspriation.  If you have never grown gourds, they are amazingly easy to grow.  Most pests don't like their smelly follage.  We live on 175 acres in the Missouri Ozarks and have very poor soil but have no problem growing most gourds.  Once again Welcome
