Rooster and hen gourd September 2016 Best of Show

Rooster and hen gourd September 2016 Best of Show

Rooster and hen wood-burned then colored with ink dyes and acrylics with pigment powder accenting the rooster tail for iridescence. Egg-shaped frame is mosaic of eggshells from my hens. Rim is raffia to emulate a nest. (Won first in gourd art at Henry County Fair and Best in Show for Hobbies and Crafts.)

Aren't they a blast!?! The latest two were hatched by one of my hens that went broody. They're 22 weeks and still not laying yet. But the shells on the gourd were from the two Olive Egger hens. (You are really in a punny mood.)
