Kansas Sunflower Gourd Patch

We have a new name. We were invited by the SMGS to join them as a new patch. Thank you to Bill and Donna Decker for joining us in our last get-together in McPherson at Merril's. We had good turnout, yummy lunch provided by Merril's lovely wife, Beth. Time was spent sharing, hearing about the AZ show and learning more about the up coming MO show. Our next meeting will be in Wichita in mid May. Details to follow later.

Hello, Everyone,

We are growing. We're up to 8 members so far and it's good to know we have some gourders in Kansas. This is a busy time of year for a lot of reasons and I know some of you do shows and festivals. I, for one, would love to hear what you think of the shows you do participate in or even just visit. Are there many gourd booths? Were the shows successful for you? Anything you might like to share. I will be sure to forward to all our KS members.

We also need to think about setting a location and date to get together some time. Maybe early next year if the weather and time is an issue.  I live north of Wamego and do have lots of room for a meeting and work space, but not sure it's a central location. Please send me your suggestions and ideas. I look forward to meeting you all.

Hello Rhonda. I'll be attending a craft fair this weekend in Arkansas City, Ks for their big parade. I live in MO, but was born & raised in KS. I only live 3 hrs from there. Will you be headed there by any chance?

Kristin, I'm so glad you're going to Missouri's show this year.  I have been going there and I am a member of the Show Me Gourd Society and we are so excited about Springfield.  It is a great place for the whole family with Branson and Silver Dollar City about 30 minutes away.  I was at the Powell Gardens east of Kansas City last weekend with some of the Missouri gourders, displaying some of our gourds and trying to get the word out about gourd art.  We were there with Bill Decker and Bert Petrie.  You ought to check out their pages here.  Their work is just awesome.  I would love to go to Arizona in February like you.  Maybe it will work out one of these years. lol  Look forward to meeting you all in the future.

Karen, sorry I didn't see your note until today!  Hillsboro was so much fun, and wonderful to meet Rhonda.  Nancy and Rhonda, I got your messages via my email, but am wondering why your comments aren't showing up here?  About shows in KS... I usually just do Hillsboro and Whimmydiddle (Scott City) which are both mid September.  I am looing forward to Arizona in February, and Missouri in mid-April.  Missouri has moved their gourd show from Sedalia to Springfield....

Sorry to say but I'm 5 hours away from Manhattan and 3 1/2 hours from Topeka.  Let me know when you're going to get together though and I might be able to come. Maybe someday we could plan a weekend retreat at our place here.  We have a cabin on the farm that sleeps 5 plus we have a hookup for a camper if someone had one.  We have a 24x30 covered pavillion with lots of electrical outlets so we could work outside all day if we wanted.

Wamego and Manhattan are so close. I'd love to have it near by. Topeka seems to have a few gourders too and it's only about 40 miles. Maybe we'll have to have a meet and great soon just to get organized. ...and may I say, that retirement IS all it's cracked up to be. So much more time for the fun things in life.

When I retire in a few years I'll have more time to think about organizing something like this. I love Wamego it would be a nice location for such a thing.
